School life

Here in Veenstra Theological Seminary

We theologize, we play also

It is not all about studying theology at the levels of our offerings, the environment also provides facilities to engage

Here in VTS, we engage in theological discourse and research without compromising our well-being.  That is why facilities are provided for both staff and students to play even though theology in the core reason for being on our campus.

Academic Life

The pivotal aspect of our community is the interactions between teachers and students in the context that is guarded by our curriculum.

Every semester is a set of activities that spur engagements both within and outside the class.  We see the period as an opportunity to make impact in the life of our learners that will cascade to the church and the society as a whole.

The programmes we offer are designed to give prospective students myriad of offerings to select from so long as they meet the entry requirements of VTS.  The major step is to go through the admission process.

The library services is a pillar in our learning ecosystem. Its growing stock of resources specifically for our teaming patrons, who are thirsty of knowledge, points to VTS desire to achieve her vision.

VTS is guided by an academic calendar that runs through every session, but segmented into semesters with detailed activities and dates. Being guided by the curriculum and calendar, our learning sessions are times for interactions and birthing of theological insights.

Spiritual life

VTS, being a Christian community, is a worshiping community. Being called upon to train pastors, teachers and leaders for the church, the Seminary places great importance on the activity of worship and the cultivation of one's spiritual life in general...

VTS provides the ecosystem for nurturing the spiritual life of learners and the teachers also.  There are activities that are outlined in order to achieve the aim because creating the wholistics leader is a focus that is key to us.

The Seminary strongly encourages students to set times of morning and evening devotions. It is proper that each day begins and ends with a quiet time in the presence of God. This is a time for scripture reading, meditation, and prayer. Families are encouraged to share this time together.

The Seminary holds daily chapel services for its students and staff. The school pauses each school day for about 30 minutes to focus its attention specifically on God. Everyone is expected to be present at the chapel service, which starts immediately after the second lesson each day. Students and staff are asked to approach the chapel quietly and respectfully in preparation for a time of mediation and worship. While the reading of scripture is central, the chapel services vary in character as follows:
  • Monday: group devotions (each class and Faculty/Staff)
  • Tuesday: praise/song service
  • Wednesday: prayer service
  • Thursday: meditations led by Faculty members and students.
  • Friday: combined service with the women’s school (Hausa).
Students will be assigned to lead/conduct chapel services. Every chapel service is followed by a time of announcements pertinent to the VTS community.

The Seminary has set up students spiritual development groups for the purpose of fellowship and developing students spiritually. Each group is led by a student leader and to be supervised by a Faculty member. All students and their wives are assigned to particular groups. These groups meet bi-weekly normally in the evening of Tuesdays for fellowship and prayers.

Every semester, a spiritual retreat is scheduled for VTS community. The two day event is comprised of praise and worship, Biblical
exposition, group Bible study and testimonies. Also, the Seminary holds prayer vigils every semester for special times of prayers.

VTS is encouraging Faculty, staff and students to deliberately engage in daily Bible reading by using a Bible reading plan spanning the year. The aim is to make this a part of our daily routines to encourage devotional reading of the Bible so that we do not depend only on academic study of the Bible.

Meeting hall
VTS exists for the training and equipping the church and society leaders with the necessary knowledge and skills for Pastoral Ministry and to improve the general education of the leaders and their family members in keeping with the contemporary educational needs of the church in Nigeria and beyond.
