About us
VTS is the official Seminary of the Christian Reformed Church Nigeria (CRC-N). It was first established in 1960 at Lupwe at the suburb of Takum now in Ussa Local Government, Taraba State, offering a lower level Pre-Seminary program in the English Language to prepare candidates for further theological studies at the Theological College of Northern Nigeria (TCNN) in Bukuru, near Jos.
Most of those who completed this training are actively involved in the church and government. In 1976, the Seminary started training pastors in the Hausa Language, while shortly thereafter, in 1981, the school was moved from Lupwe to Wukari.
The school was moved to its present, permanent campus in 1990. The CRCN also used this opportunity to change the language of instruction from Hausa to English, an upgrade made necessary by improving standards of education and rapidly changing conditions in the country. On 9″ January, 1991, the newly established Veenstra Seminary admitted the first 35 students to start a Diploma in Christian Ministries. This first class subsequently graduated in July of 1994. Most of its graduates are presently pastoring churches or serving as directors of church boards and ministries, while some serve as religious teachers in various primary and secondary schools
In 2003, the school adopted its new name; “Veenstra Theological Seminary” in order to reflect its vision and focus as a theological training institute. In the same year, the governing board approved launching of the proposed Degree programs in addition to Diploma programs. In 2008 the Seminary graduated her first degree set. In 2001 she started part-time in Diploma programs. Presently she offers part-time programs in BA.Th & BA. RS within 4½ – 6 years as the case may be.
